“ Excellent home made northern Chinese food. I've come here twice and both times been surprised at how good it was. The first time I got the crispy pork and eggplant/potatoes dish. The second time I got the kung pao chicken and eggplant. The dishes are served family style so each time it was enough for two meals. Both meals were amazing. The best kung pao chicken I've had and the eggplant was sneaky good as well. I am new to the area so not used to all the good Chinese food available and maybe my standards are low but this is definitely up there with some of the best Chinese food I've had in my entire life. Service was good and responsive, and the restaurant was clean and well maintained. ”
“ This was an extremely authentic mom & pop Northeast Chinese restaurant. I ordered the Old Style Wrapped Pork and it was SO good. It had a sweet tangy sauce and was crispy and perfect tbh. A huge portion too. The outside looks so cute and inside was like a classic Chinese restaurant, you know that it'll be good. The only complaint was that I placed my order online and waited the recommended time to pick up and they hadn't made it until I got there and I was already so hungry :( but it was honestly worth the wait!! It was probably because I came before the dinner rush and there was only one table dining when I came in so they probably just weren't paying attention to the online order. Still 5 stars because it was that good! ”
“ What a surprise! Food was really good - everything from soft tofu with green onions, sweet and sour pork, egg and tomato noodles just to name a few things we over ordered. Restaurant seemed well maintained and family run - hope restaurants like this do well so we can come back again and again! ”
“ North east China cuisine. Ordered a pork dish; it had just the right balance of spice and vinegar. Will order again and hopefully other dishes are just as good. ”
“ Found a new favorite place. Ordered to go and the dishes we ordered were delicious. Even though we took the fried dishes to go but they were still very crispy; Pbb would taste even better at the restaurant. Sour cabbage pork was sooo good. Most places tasted water down and not sour enough but not here. Spicy tofu and intestines were not very spicy but very flavorful. Loved the cold dishes as well. Can't wait to go back and try more. ”
“ I ordered online for pickup to bring to a chinese new year dinner. I ordered the green beans and tried one of their other popular items which was the crispy stir-fry eggplant dish which was everyone's favorite. Even after I opened the takeout box, it was still crispy. I would pass on the green beans cuz it was soggy and sad looking. ”
“ Sheng Yuan is a relatively new entry into a very competitive landscape and a family run restaurant. What Sheng Yuan has going for them though is they serve the unique Liaoning-style food that is hard to find in the SGV. Liaoning is a northern industrial Chinese province that borders North Korea. The food is not necessarily spicy as you might expect but very flavorful. The three highly recommended dishes are their stir fry potato, eggplant and green pepper, surprisingly enough; their signature baked chicken wings with salted egg yolk; and their old style wrapped pork which was tender and reminiscent of their version of sweet and sour pork. All dishes were well prepared. The place is nicely decorated and clean with a fair number of tables. They only have 2 large round tables to accommodate parties of 6 or more. Service was good. Parking is available in the back. Overall, a great find for another style of Chinese food. ”
“ I was super excited to see another northern Chinese restaurant opening in the SGV and this place did not disappoint. It is run by a super nice family with the parents cooking and the daughter greeting customers. There is plenty of free parking behind the restaurant. Food: The most notable thing about my meal is that the food was neither too greasy nor too salty. Everything was delicious, especially the eggplant, pickles cabbage, and roasted fish (it's not on the menu but the waitress mentioned it as a special item). Tastes like authentic dong bei cuisine and I can't wait to go back. Ambiance: honestly I thought the place looked a bit sketchy from the outside but found it to be beautifully decorated inside. The paintings are incredible and the table settings are nicely branded with the restaurant name. Price: Super fair for the area. For reference, a meal for my family of 4 cost about $115. Tldr; great new Chinese restaurant using less oil and salt than most other places. Prices are fair, service is kind, and food is delicious! What's not to like? ”
